Psalms - 2010
The book of psalms is a collection of poetry—songs and verse written as an act of worship, to be used in worship. Many people over several centuries wrote these psalms. But their teaching, their encouragement, and their warnings are just as relevant for our lives today. Because their God is also our God. And he never changes. Each of the psalms is like a separate mini book—with its own message to deliver. As we explore various psalms, we find guidance for both our heads and our hearts on a host of different issues.

Easter - 2010Everyone blows it. At one time or another, we’ve all failed. If we’re honest, we’d admit that we’ve failed even to live up to our own standards, let alone God’s standard of perfection. So sin is a reality, a constant companion. It’s an ugly subject, so we tend to avoid it, hide it, distract ourselves from thinking about it. But God would have us do the opposite: confront it, admit it, deal with it. God actually has some good news for us about sin. As we prepare to celebrate Easter, it’s good to spend some time dealing with this topic that we love to avoid. |

chip 2.0 - 2010I’m not the same old person I used to be! God’s
been making some surprising and significant changes in my life. But this
isn’t a series about ME! It’s a series about GOD and
how he’s trying to shape me and transform me—so that my choices,
attitudes and actions imitate the character traits of Jesus. And it’s a
series about YOU, because God wants to make the same kind
of “Jesus transformation” in your life. Perhaps what I’m learning can
help you discover the upgrades and exciting innovations God wants to
make in your operating system, the all new and improved “you 2.0”! |

Strategery: the clash between faith and action - 2009Work
hard. Make good decisions. Stick with it. A sure recipe for success?
The problem is that we’ve all seen too many exceptions to the
conventional wisdom that tells us our fate is in our own hands. “Just
trust God,” others would say. So, does that really mean we sit back
idle, do nothing, and wait for God to intervene? In Genesis, the Bible
tells the story of Jacob, a man known for deceitful tactics and cunning
strategy. He tries everything he can think of to stack the deck in his
favor, to manipulate the outcome and ensure his success. In the
process, he learns some hard lessons about the tension between belief
and effort.

Who Are You? (And How You Got To Be That Way) - 2009Kind?
Clever? Vindictive? Impulsive? What makes you the kind of person you
are? Our character is the sum of several different factors that
influence our personality, interact with each other, and mold us into
the people we become. The characteristics that emerge will either help
us or haunt us for the rest of our lives. Jacob was a man whose whole
life was distinguished by deceit and trickery. But he began that
journey same way each of us gets started down our own path.

Rediscover Christmas - 2008Every Christmas we spent many hours
putting up decorations, shopping for gifts, opening presents, visiting
family and going to one party after another. All that rushing around
could leave you not only exhausted, but perhaps also feeling a bit
guilty for allowing the holiday "to obscure the true meaning of Christmas".
But instead of leaving yourself a lump of coal in your stocking, you
can actually find spiritual significance in the midst of the many
activities of the holiday rush. |

Submission: Impossible - 2008Good morning, Mr. Phelps. Your
submission, should you decide to accept it, is to obey the authorities
in your life, respect them and cooperate in every way you can. They may
be neither right nor righteous, but you must still recognize that God
put them in positions of power and they serve as His agents. Should you
disavow all knowledge of God’s instructions and fail in this submission, it is quite likely you will self destruct.

The Dirty Words of Leadership - 2008Celebrating freedom,
enjoying an unprecedented level of choice and empowerment, most of us
have developed an allergy to being told what to do. Authority. Control. Submission.
To the modern ear, these words sound cruel and archaic. They sting like
expletives. But the Bible tells us some surprising truths about these
"dirty words" of leadership.
