One of the most Christian things you can ever do is to close your mouth.
“Words can bring life” and from time to time we are very good at doing this when we offer words of encouragement, praise, direction, and hope. “Words can destroy” and most of the time we are very good at this when we gossip, criticize, and speak poorly about others. As we continue in our series, “Embracing the New Testament: 1 John” we find that the apostle John is very clear that one of the greatest ways we can demonstrate our love for God is by how we treat other people. This is not a new idea, it’s a really old one, but the question is, do you need a good reminder about the power of your words? Come this Sunday and get a refresher course in Jesus Speech 101. Oh yeah, “If you can’t say anything nice, then be really spiritual and keep your mouth closed.”
