Impossible standards and infinite grace: it is a message that runs throughout Jesus’ teachings. Jesus never compromised on God’s ideal: “Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Yet at the same time Jesus offered absolute grace. It is this grace and forgiveness that makes Christianity distinctive and powerful. At every turn in life we can readily see that we don’t measure up to God’s standards. We are sinfully inept. Yet at moments of worship and reflection with God, we can peacefully sense that God loves us just the way we are.
Have you lost hope, trying to measure up to God’s standards? Do you look down on others that “haven’t arrived” yet? Whatever the case, God is beckoning you to come and sit at his feet and hear the truth of the Gospel: God desires for you to follow his plan AND God loves you exactly the way you are.
